Black Diggers | Arts Centre Melbourne

Much more than entertaining theatre, Black Diggers is a masterful exposition of the ANZAC spirit as well as telling an important part of Australian Aboriginal history. Originally from Sydney, it is appropriate that Black Diggers was staged in Melbourne on ANZAC day as it embodies all the elements we learn from the most noble of defeats at Gallipoli, including duty and sacrifice as well as the birth of national pride in Australia and mateship. More significantly, the play restores the forgotten history of the Aboriginal men who served their country despite being rejected as citizens.
